The 2nd
international Conference on Vulnerability and Risk Analysis and Management
(ICVRAM2014) and the sixth international Symposium on Uncertainty Modeling and
Analysis (ISUMA2014) was recently held at the University of Liverpool from July
12 to 16, 2014. This joint conference was organized by the Institute for Risk and
Uncertainty and Uncertainty
(University of Liverpool) in collaboration with the ASCE Council on Disaster
Risk Management, the Environmental Change Institute (University of Oxford) and
the Virtual Engineering Centre (University of Liverpool).
Dr. Lessandro Estelito O. Garciano, a full-time faculty member of the
civil engineering department presented his paper entitled “Risk analysis of power supply in San Juan, Surigao City,
Philippines due to extreme floods“ . The co-authors of this paper are Dr. Renan Ma. T. Tanhueco (DLSU), Prof.
Takeshi Koike (Kyoto University) and Prof. Ikumasa Yoshida (Tokyo City University).
This paper is a result of an AUN/SEED-Net externally funded research that was
awarded to the above researchers sometime in December 2011 where Dr. Garciano served
as the principal investigator with Professor
Koike as the co-investigator.
The conference attracted 5 keynote lectures and 289 full papers in 24
invited Mini-Symposia and 6 general sessions. The aim of the conference was to
provide a multi-disciplinary forum for the exchange of knowledge and expertise
in the Quantification,
Mitigation and Management of Risk and Uncertainty, and in Decision Making.
