Last September 9 – 12, 2019, members of the Transportation Engineering (TRE) Division of DLSU Civil Engineering Department participated at the 13th International Conference of Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies (EASTS) held at Colombo, Sri Lanka. The conference was attended by Dr. Alexis Fillone, Engr. Paolo Ian Lucero, Engr. Raymund Paolo Abad, Engr. Riches Bacero, Engr. Sherwin Roy Calumba, Mr. Monorom Rith, and Mr. Teddy Carl Omilig.

The main theme of the conference was "Redesigning Transport & Logistics for the rise of Asia" and it was jointly organized by the Sri Lanka Society of Transport and Logistics (SLSTL). EASTS 2019 had more than 500 participants from about 30 countries. EASTS started in November 1994 with 13 countries/regions from Eastern Asia. Currently, it is now being participated by 19 domestic societies with Transportation Science Society of the Philippines (TSSP) as the corresponding local organization in the country. The biennial conference mainly aims to "foster and support excellence in transportation research and practice" of professionals especially in Asia.

The following papers were presented at EASTS 2019.

The next conference (EASTS 2021) will be held in Hiroshima, Japan.

Dr. Jason Ongpeng participated in the Technopreneurship Faculty Training 2019

Last September 16 to 21, 2019, Dr. Jason Ongpeng participated in the Technopreneurship Faculty Training 2019 at Citadines Millenium, Ortigas. The training was hosted by PhilDev, in partnership with UNDP in the Philippines and the Australian Embassy in the Philippines through the Innovation for Social Impact Partnership (ISIP) project.

PhilDev and UC Berkeley co-designed the training modules which aim to enhance the current outline of the T101 subject by integrating social impact/social entrepreneurship concepts in its design.

This event brought together over 70 professors from various universities in the Philippines to undergo faculty training on teaching Technopreneurship 101. The ISIP Faculty Training on Ensuring Social Impact in Technopreneurship Teaching aims to enhance the capacity of professors to teach entrepreneurship and couple this with social impact using UN SDG framework, providing professors with teaching knowledge, tools, and techniques which are relevant, localized, and effective.

Leading the training is Ken Singer, Managing Director of the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology, and David Law, CEO of Venture Dojo. Both of them taught the world-class Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship in the training while also integrating social impact and social entrepreneurship concepts and frameworks.

The Faculty Training is one of the activities of the Innovation for Social Impact Partnership (ISIP), a project co-implemented by UNDP Philippines and PhilDev Foundation, with generous support from Australia In the Philippines. Learn more about the Faculty Training by visiting https://www.isip-ph.com/faculty-training

To teach DLSU students Technopreneurship, the recommended teaching delivery are as follows-
Student lecture
Student games
Masterclass group reflections
Deconstruct lessons for instructors
Team project work
Homework

In addition, some important notes to consider from Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship are as follows-
Inductive learning
Journey based
Mindset and behaviors
Framework and cases
Networks and connections

Lastly, to have DLSU students' mindset of PAYING IT FORWARD.

The Gokongwei College of Engineering underwent ABET accreditation last October 28-30, 2018. The Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accreditation provides assurance that the program meets the quality standards established by the profession. This non-profit organization is based in the US and is run by professional organizations. The focus of ABET is not on compliance but on continuous improvement. Furthermore, ABET is the foremost international accrediting body of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

ABET accreditation is important because it is a proof that a collegiate program has met standards essential to produce graduates ready to enter their respective fields. Graduates from an ABET-accredited program have a solid educational foundation and are capable of leading the way in innovation, emerging technologies, and in anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.
