DLSU CE Faculty Presented their Research in Sustainable Proactive Advocacies in Civil Engineering (SPACE) 2023

 The 9th International Conference of the Sustainable Proactive Advocacies in Civil Engineering (SPACE) 2023 was held last September 4 to 5, 2023 in Century Park Hotel, Manila and simulcasted via ZOOM. The conference was co-organized by the Philippine Institute of the Philippines (PICE) – Makati Chapter, the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (ASEP) and the Institution of Specialist Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ISSEP). The event was divided into seven (7) technical sessions wherein several faculty members of the Department of Civil Engineering of De La Salle University were part of the list of speakers for the said event.

Day 1 of the event included the presentations of Dr. Rodolfo P. Mendoza, Dr. Andres Winston C. Oreta and Dr. Renan Ma. T. Tanhueco. Dr. Mendoza presented a paper on the topic Seismic design of Marine and Port Structures: History and Recent Developments under Technical Session 2 in the field of Structural Engineering (STE). Technical Session 4 showcased topics under Civil Engineering Education. Dr. Oreta presented the topic on Shake the tower challenge: A hands-on exercise for training future structural engineers for the “Big One” while Dr. Tanhueco presented his study on Teaching Urban Planning Engineering: A new specialization coursework in the DLSU Civil Engineering Program.









Day 2 of the program exhibited the works of Engr. Valerio, Dr. Galupino and Dr. Uy. Engr. Daniel Nichol R. Valerio presented his research work together with students Mr. Marc Adrian Kung and Mr. Albino Sablayan IV on the topic Development of polystyrene plastic waste gravel in concrete under Technical Session 5 on Project Management and Construction Engineering (PMCE). Technical Session 6 comprised topics under Geotechnical Engineering (GTE). Dr. Joenel G. Galupino presented his work co-authored by Dr. Jonathan R. Dungca on Estimating Soil Types using Machine Learning Techniques: A Case of Metro Manila, Philippines. Dr. Erica Elice S. Uy presented her topic entitled Estimating Compression Index using a Genetic Algorithm Approach which was co-authored with Engr. Sean Cavan C. Co, Engr. Jerome Martin S. Du, Engr. Hans Daniel Faith G. Ong, Engr. Mikee Janine T. Uy Ching and Dr. Joenel G. Galupino.






Those who were present at the event were Dr. Lessandro Estelito O. Garciano, who was the Technical Head Committee of SPACE2023 as well as the moderator of Technical Session 4, Engr. Frederick Francis M. Sison was also the moderator of Technical Session 6, former Professional Lecturer Engr. Adam Abinales and alumni Engr. Megan Angela Quiaem as the emcee.

DLSU CE Faculty Members and PhD Students attend ASEM 2023 in Seoul, Korea

 


The 2023 World Congress on Advances in Structural Engineering and Mechanics (ASEM23) was held last August 16 to 18, 2023 at the Global Education Center for Engineers (GECE) Convention, Seoul National University. The conference was organized by Int'l Association of Structural Engineering & Mechanics (IASEM), Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) and Korean Tunneling and Underground Space Association (KTA). 

Prof. Mary Ann Q. Adajar presented a paper co-authored with Jackielyn Mae Bacay, Andre Angelo Chu and Daryl Ann Del Rosario entitled Geotechnical characterization of dolomite byproducts as geomaterial for road embankment.

Dr. Erica Elice S. Uy presented a paper co-authored with Engr. Sean Cavan C. Co, Engr. Jerome Martin S. Du, Engr. Hans Daniel Faith G. Ong, Engr. Mikee Janine T. Uy Ching and Dr. Joenel G. Galupino entitled Developing a Compressibility Map using Machine Learning with a case in Eastern Metro Manila, Philippines.

Engr. Albert A. GriƱo Jr., a PhD Candidate, presented a paper co-authored with Prof. Jason Maximino C. Ongpeng, Prof. Lessandro Estelito O. Garciano, Prof. Michael Angelo B. Promentilla and Dr. Ernesto J. Guades entitled Self-Healing Performance of Geopolymer Mortar with Polypropylene Fiber and Bacteria.

Engr. Emerzon Torres, a PhD Candidate, presented a paper co-authored with Prof. Jonathan R. Dungca entitled Understanding soil liquefaction case histories using interpretable machine learning.
