CE Faculty served as speakers at UNESCO Chair Webinar


The UNESCO Chair in Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Engineering chaired by Prof. Dina D’Ayala of University College London hosted a webinar on “Infrastructure Resilience Initiatives: The Philippine Experience” on 11 April 2024 (5:00 – 7:00 PM, PH Time) via Zoom. DLSU Department of Civil Engineering Faculty were invited as resource speakers. Listed below are the DLSU resource speakers and the topic of their presentation:

  • Dr. Andres Oreta – Capacity Building on Disaster, Mitigation, Preparedness and Response: An Overview of the ASEP DMPR Training
  • Dr. Lessandro Garciano – Lessons on Damage Structures from Past Earthquakes in the Philippines – An ASEP Post-Earthquake Assessment
  • Dr. Rodolfo Mendoza, Jr. – Restoration of Bantay Church in Vigan, Philippines 

Incidentally, the invited DLSU speakers are also active members of the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP), where Dr. Oreta is an ASEP Fellow, Dr. Garciano is the incumbent Vice President while Dr. Mendoza is the Secretary. Another ASEP Fellow who also served as speaker was Engr. Juanito Cunanan who presented on “The Big One Project in Metro Manila.” 

About 400 online participants joined the Zoom webinar. Engr. Dex Lo of Xavier University, an MSCE alumnus of DLSU Gokongwei College of Engineering served as one of the moderators.
