DLSU TRE Students win best paper presentors at the 5th ATRANS

DLSU BSCE Transportation Engineering Majors (TRE) Students successfully presented their papers at the 5th Asean Transportation Research Society  Symposium (ATRANS) at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand last August 24-25, 2012.

Best Student Paper Presentation
The student paper, "A Proposed Circulation System for the Old Calle Real de Iloilo City, Philippines presented by by Hector Macapagal and Adrian Alarcon was selected as the best paper presentation in the student chapter session of the 5th ATRANS.

The 5th ATRANS with the theme, "Transportation for a Better Life: Preparing for ASEAN Integration", attracted more than a hundred participants not only coming from ASEAN countries but all over the world, including government officials, researchers, academicians, and students involved in the field of transportation.

Dr. Alexis Fillone of the Civil Engineering Department-TRE Division presented during the main symposium about the "Pedestrianization of the Proposed Heritage Site in Iloilo City, Philippines."  In the student chapter session, DLSU graduating students presented papers based from their undergraduate thesis. The student papers presented were:
  • Applicability of the Bus Rapid Transit System along Epifanio de los Santo Avenue, Metro Manila by Caroline Escover, Mayumi Tsukamoto, Marcus Kyle Baron
  • A Proposed Circulation System for the Old Calle Real de Iloilo City, Philippines by Hector Macapagal, Adrian Alarcon, Juanito Dator, and Angelica Ongkingco
  • Modeling the Impact of On-Street Parking on Vehicular Traffic by Eriko Luis Hallare, Marc Alvin Lim, and Jesus Gerard Briones
  • Establishing the Vehicular Speed-Density-Flow Relationships along Selected Primary Roads in Iloilo City by Keane Gregory Landoy, Miguel Antonio Pena, and Joselito Luis Pabiton
  • Impact of Road Infrastructure Improvements along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City by Elisa Joyce Prescillas, Jeddalyn Gallero ,Melvin Flores.
The Filipino delegation at the symposium came from DLSU and  the Central Philippine University (CPU), Iloilo City. CPU is led by Engr. Daryl Grio who presented a paper entitled, "Proposed Parking Facilities for the Local Heritage Site of Iloilo City" by Paul Vincent Lacsao, Jolly Mae San Luis, and Razel Davila. DLSU TRE Division has an ongoing collaborative research partnership with CPU.

The ATRANS symposium is a yearly event held in Bangkok, Thailand. Incoming forth year Civil Engineering students from DLSU-Manila especially those majoring in Transportation Engineering are therefore encourage to work hard on their thesis so that they could get accepted to this yearly symposium. The student paper presenter is given free roundtrip ticket and accommodation.
