ChiChi20 International Conference 2019

DLSU professors, Dr. Andres Oreta and Dr. Lessandro Garciano (CE Dept. chair) and professional lecturers, Adam Abinales and Erick Sison attended the International Conference in Commemoration of 20th Anniversary of the 1999 Chi-Chi Earthquake at Taipei, Taiwan held on September 15-19, 2019. 

Prof. Oreta and Engr. Abinales were invited to give talks in parallel sessions of the conference. Prof. Oreta delivered a paper co-authored with Engr. Adrian Frederick Sy on "Development of a Brief Code-Based Seismic Diagnostic Tool for Existing RC Buildings Considering Vertical Irregularities" on Sept. 18. Engr. Abinales, on the other hand gave a talk on "The Project SAM: Development of Probabilistic Seismic Ground Motion Hazard Map for the Entire Philippines" on Sept 16.

Prof. Garciano also presented a paper co-authored with Abraham Matthew S. Carandang and Osamu Maruyama in one parallel session where he also served as session chair on "Quantifying a Resilience Index of a Water Distribution Network (WDN) using an Optimal Restoration Strategy" on Sept 18.
The Philippine delegation in the conference are mostly officers and members of the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (ASEP). ASEP has a strong cooperative relationship with Taiwan's National Center for Research in Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) especially in organizing international conferences. NCREE has supported ASEP varioous conferences including the ASIA Conference in Earthquake Engineering (ACEE) and in the coming SHAKE International Conference this November 14-16, 2019.
