Join the CES Popsicle Stick Bridge Building Contest

Why not make the Christmas break productive. Form a group of three CE undergraduate students, create your popsicle stick bridge and you may win a total of P15,000.00. Undergraduate students from CE schools in the Philippines are invited to join the 5th National CES Popsicle Stick Bridge Building Competition organized by the DLSU Civil Engineering Society (CES) and sponsored by Review Innovations (RI). The registration form can be downloaded from http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bridgebuilding09. For advanced registration submit the completed form through e-mail at derricksy2291@yahoo.com, until December 13, 2008. Advanced registrants will only pay P500.00. The regular registration fee is P 600.00 per group of three members. The registration fee must be sent along with the bridge entry on or before February 7, 2009.

There will be two categories of Winners: (a) Design Category (P5,000.00)– One winner to be judged based on creativity in form and design, functionality and practicality (b) Strength Category (P10,000.00, P8,000.00 and P5,000.00) – Top 3 Winners in the Bridge Strength Testing based on weight, strength and displacement

Participants are required to design a popsicle stick bridge that will be laid on two smooth supports with a span length (S) of 560 mm. The bridge must satisfy the following requirements: Length (L) ≤ 770 mm, Width (B) ≤ 140 mm, Height (H) ≤ 200 mm from the support surfaces to the top, Depth (D) ≤ 100 mm from the support surface to the flat surface of the bridge deck and Weight (W) ≤ 1.50 kg. The bridge will be tested using a UTM.
