New CE Faculty Members for AY 2018-2019

ENGR. ANYA ARGUELLES

Engr. Anya Catherine C. Arguelles obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Santo Tomas and Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Korea University. She has three years of combined experience in the construction industry and has taught for a year in the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Santo Tomas. She’s been working as a civil and environmental field engineer since 2014 at Jacobs Project Philippines, Inc. (JACOBS) (formerly CH2M Hill Philippines, Inc.). She was heavily involved with a lot of Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) projects and became involved with various environmental disposal and remediation projects. She currently continues to work as a sub-consultant of JACOBS for ongoing disposal and remediation projects that enhances her experience in soil and groundwater resource management.

DR. RODOLFO "MAC" MENDOZA, JR.

Mr. Mendoza has seven years of work experience in structural engineering and consulting profession. He worked for top engineering consulting firms like AECOM Technology and Over Arup and Partners, and as the head of structural design department of Maynilad Water Services, Inc. He obtained his Doctor Engineering Degree major in Civil Engineering (Concrete Mechanics) from the Nagoya University, Japan and Master of Science in Structural Engineering from the Mapua Institute of Technology. His doctoral research focused on the development of a coupled Rigid Body Spring Model (RBSM) and nonlinear shell FEM for the nonlinear analysis of concrete-steel and concrete-FRP composites. His research interests include evaluation of post-peak behavior of concrete structures, geometrically nonlinear shell FEM, and behavior of steel and FRP-confined concrete members. He was a DOST scholar and placed 2nd in the November 2008 licensure examination for civil engineers. He was also awarded as the 3rd Most Outstanding Student of the Philippines in 2007 by the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE). He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers-Structural Engineering Institute (ASCE-SEI), Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP), Japan Society for Computational Engineering and Science (JSCES), and the Japan Concrete Institute (JCI). He will be teaching undergraduate subjects in civil engineering such as Theory of Structures and Reinforced Concrete Design, and a graduate course on Nonlinear Analysis of Structures.

DR. KRISTER IAN DANIEL

Dr. Krister Ian Daniel Z. Roquel belongs to the first batch of BS-MS in Civil Engineering graduates from De La Salle University, class of 2013. He worked as a Science Research Specialist and part-time Lecturer in the Civil Engineering Department of De La Salle University, before pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Civil Engineering at the same Institution, on a scholarship under the Engineering Research and Development for Technology (ERDT) program of the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI). He also went to study at the Transport Studies Unit of the School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford in the United Kingdom as a research exchange student. His research interests include travel demand modeling, discrete choice modeling, and transport economics.

DR. ERICA ELICE UY

Dr. Erica Elice S. Uy graduated from De La Salle University in 2011 with a degree on Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with specialization in Structural Engineering. She was granted a 2-year full scholarship by AUN/SEED-Net for her Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with specialization in Geotechnical Engineering at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok from 2012 to 2014. Through the Engineering Research and Development for Technology (ERDT) Scholarship of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), she was able to pursue her Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Civil Engineering with specialization in Geotechnical Engineering at De La Salle University.  She was also granted a Sandwich program from the ERDT Scholarship at Nagoya University, Nagoya, Japan. She is interested in soil testing, constitutive modelling and development of prototypes that apply image processing as a tool for non-contact measurement.

Introducing the new member of the HWR Division: DR. MARLA M. REDILLAS

Dr. Marla M. Redillas, a licensed Civil Engineer, has completed her Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Santo Tomas. She took up her Masters and Doctorate degrees in Civil Engineering major in Environmental Engineering from Kongju National University in South Korea. She has co-authored 46 ISI (SCI/SSCI) and SCOPUS indexed international journal publications, 23 Korean journal publications; and over 85 international and 67 Korean conference proceedings publications. She has almost 10 years of research experience in water quality, diffuse pollution and stormwater management. She serves as Board Member of the International Water Association (IWA) Diffuse Pollution and Eutrophication Specialist Group, Secretary of International Relations Committee of the Korean Society of Hazard Mitigation, and Editorial Committee Member of the Journal of Wetlands Research. Prior to entering DLSU, she worked as Water Resources Manager in the Water Resources and Environmental Planning Department of the Manila Water Company, Inc.

CE Dept has a LEED expert in Kaye Martinez

DLSU CIV alumnus , Engr. Klarissa Martinez, a LEED and DPWH Materials Engineer accredited professional joins the CE Department as a part-time faculty teaching Building Design and Hydraulics Lab courses. She will be an asset to the department especially now that Sustainability and Green Engineering concepts are starting to be included in some of the undergraduate and graduate courses.

Meet the CE Department's ASF: Joenel

Joenel Galupino graduated BSCE and was recognized for his Outstanding Contribution to the CE Department in 2009. And he still continues his dedicated service to the university and the CE students and faculty by serving as an Academic Service Faculty (ASF) in-charge of the laboratories of the CE Department starting 2013. Chula U - AUN/SEED-Net Scholars teach part-time at CE Dept

AUN/SEED-Net scholars who graduated Master of Engineering from Chulalongkorn University returned to the Philippines and many of them applied for a part-time teaching position at the CE Department. In 2014, three alumni - Daniel Valerio, Erica Uy and Jamiel Jayme started teaching at DLSU. Valerio and Jayme are still teaching part-time while Uy is now a full-time ERDT scholar taking PhD-CE at DLSU. Last 2015, two more alumni - Maria Emilia Sevilla and Marcus Kyle Baron also started teaching at CE Dept. Here is an introduction of the two alumni and former scholars.

BSMS Batch 2 hired as Part Time Faculty

The BSMS honors program is a ladderized program at DLSU for  students with outstanding academic performance. These BSMS students also qualified in the DOST ERDT scholarships. The most recent graduates of this program who also just passed successfully the CE Board Exams last November 2015 were enticed to teach as part-time faculty of the Department of Civil Engineering. Here is an introduction of the new part-time BSMS faculty who hopefully will fill-up the next generation (4th generation - referred to as the GLOBALIZERS) of faculty members of the department.

 

  

 

Engr. Jayme joins TRE faculty

Engr.Jamiel Louiee Jayme, DLSU BSCE(TRE) alumnus and AUN/SEED-Net scholar at Chulalongkorn University joins the Transportation Engineering Division as part-time faculty and teaches the specialized courses in TRE.. He is an advisee of Dr. Alexis Fillone in the undergrad thesis.

Dr. Juanzon: New CTM Faculty

The Construction Technology and Management (CTM) Division has a new part-time faculy with a PhD in Management, Dr. Joesph Berlin P. Juanzon. Dr. Juanzon has more than 30 years experience in the construction industry. He started teaching at DLSU last 1st Term AY 2014-2015. He is teaching courses on CIVLAWS and BUILDES.

New Part-Time CE (STE-GTE) Faculty - Benjie & Erica

Engr. Benjie Dimaculangan is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of the Philippines in Diliman. He also finished Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering at the De La Salle University, where he completed his work on “Rotational Stiffness of Column Base of Steel Pipe Rack Structures”. He has more than 15 years of professional experience, mostly in the oil and gas industry, and has rotated into various functions in structural engineering, project controls, estimating, business development and project engineering management. Previously a faculty member of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, he is currently returning to the academe to pursue his interest in people development.

Alden Paul Balili joins STE Division

DLSU alumnus (BSCE 2002, MSCE 2009), Engr. Alden Paul Balili is now a full time assistant professor under the Structural Engineering (STE) Division of the Civil Engineering Deaprtment.

Balili was awarded an Outstanding MSCE Thesis for his research on optimal design of RC frames using genetic algorithms. Before teaching at DLSU as a part-time faculty in 2010, he worked for seven years in various structural design projects at Parsons Brinckerhoff. Balili is a member of the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP), International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) and Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE). His research area is on applications of  software and computing technology in structural and earthquake engineering.

Balili is tasked to teach engineering mechanics subjects, mechanics of deformable bodies, civil engineering computer methods, computer-aided structural analysis, structural design subjects and specialized structural engineering courses like bridge design and structural design of buildings. He also teaches graduate courses on finite element analysis and advanced structural analysis.
