Tokyo Tech Profs lecture on Structural and Functional Resilience

DLSU Civil Engineering Dept. & URCO RPW on Building Resilient Cities and Communities hosted a Lecture Series on “BUILDING STRUCTURAL & FUNCTIONAL RESILIENCE”  last 26 November 2018 (Monday),  9:00 – 11:30 AM at the Velasco Hall (V207 Conf. Rm).

The resource speakers were Prof. Toru Takeuchi, Dept. of Architecture & Building Eng’g, Tokyo Institute of Technology and Prof. Satoshi Yamada, Institute of Innovative Research, Tokyo Institute of Technology.   The topic of their lectures are:

• RECENT SEISMIC DESIGN WITH ENERGY-CONTROL CONCEPTS IN JAPAN - Toru Takeuchi, Professor, Dept. of Architecture & Building Eng’g, Tokyo Institute of Technology & Vice President of Architectural Institute of Japan.
• INTRODUCTION OF THE “SOFTECH” PROJECT - Satoshi Yamada, Professor, Institute of Innovative Research, Tokyo Institute of Technology Chairman of the “SOFTech” project.

The program was emceed by Vice-chair, Dr. Maria De Leon and Engr. Richard De Jesus opened the program with a prayer. Prof. Lessandro Garciano, CE Dept. chair gave a welcome message while Prof. Andres Oreta presented an introduction about the initiatives of DLSU CE Department on Resilience Building and an overview on Infrastructure Resilience. Then, the two lectures were presented followed by an open forum facilitated by Prof. Bernard Lejano. Dr. Jason Ongpeng, president of the Association of Tokyo Tech Alumni & Research Scholars (ATTARS) gave the closing message. The lecture was attended by DLSU faculty, graduate students and structural engineers from ASEP and UPD.

INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEMs (ITS) Forum 2017

Last February 17, 2017, De La Salle University - Manila hosted the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Forum 2017 at the 5th floor Henry Sy Sr. Hall. Sponsored by the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (PCIEERD-DOST), DLSU-Manila, UP-National Center for Transportation Studies (NCTS), and Transportation Science Society of the Philippines (TSSP), the forum was attended by representatives of different agencies in public (DOST, DPWH, MMDA, DOTr), local(MTRO, MTPB), private bus companies, and institutional (UP, DLSU, MIT) sectors.

The ITS forum showcased the various ITS research projects of the various academic institutions all under PCIEERD-DOST. The research projects yielded significant and interesting results. The technical presentations are as follows:

3. CATCH-All - Dr. Elmer Dadios (DLSU)

In addition, National Government agencies also presented the current state of ITS applications in the country with respect to their sectors. The agency presentations were:

1. Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - Engr. Nonilo Pena

2. Department of Transportation (DOTr) - Asec. Mark Richmund de Leon

3. Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - Engr. Jonathan Araullo 

4. ITS-Philippines - Dr. Ricardo Sigua

 In the afternoon, workshops were held discussing the DOST roadmap and the ITS masterplan. Representatives from DOST, DPWH, MMDA, DOTr, the academe, and privates industries were part of the discussion. The workshop was a success with many fresh ideas and outputs developed. A total of 73 people participated in the forum including faculty, staff and students from DLSU.
