DLSU CIV-HWR Students and Faculty Bag Best Presentation Awards at ICEAS 2022 in South Korea


Ansan City, South Korea – The Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering (HWR) research team from the Department of Civil Engineering at De La Salle University, Manila attended the International Conference for Energy, Aquatech, and Sustainability 2022 (ICEAS 2022) held at Hanyang University ERICA Campus, Ansan City, South Korea, from August 3 to 5, 2022.

The research team comprised of eight delegates led by the HWR Division Head, Dr. Marla Maniquiz-Redillas, presented their research in the on-site/online hybrid sessions on water and environment, climate change, and sustainable development. Three of the eight papers received the Best Presentation award.

Participants and presentation titles:

1. Dr. Marla Maniquiz-Redillas, Associate Professor – “Assessment on the Effectivity of Low Impact Development Control in a Developing Catchment”

2. Engr. Gil Cruz, PhD student – “First flush analysis and water quality volume determination for the design of low impact development control in an urban catchment area” (Best Presentation)

3. Engr. Jay Navaluna, PhD student – “Optimization of Low Impact Development Design using Fuzzy Rough Set Algorithm”

4. Engr. Sergi Garbanzos, MS student – “Assessing the Flow Reduction of Low Impact Development Controls in a Residential Setting”

5. Engr. Denzel Keith Urieta, MS student – “Evaluating the hydrological response of a developing tropical catchment for sustainable watershed management” (Best Presentation)

6. Miguel Enrico Robles, BS graduate – “Investigating heavy metal buildup processes in road deposited sediments and its contribution to urban runoff nonpoint source pollution” (Best Presentation)

7. Anthony Lorenzo A. Peña, BS graduate – “Modeling a Stormwater Harvesting System to Reuse Roof Runoff for Irrigation of Green Spaces” (online presentation)

8. Miguel Campos, undergraduate student – “Managing Bridge and River Runoff by Designing a Free Water Surface Flow Constructed Wetland in a Type IV Climate in Leyte, Philippines” (online presentation)

Delegates from various countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, and South America also attended the international conference organized by Korea Academic Society for Appropriate Technology.

Engr. Denzel Urieta is the recipient of Best Presentation Award at the Climate Change and Sustainable Development II session.

In addition to presenting in the conference’ parallel sessions, the Lasallian delegates also attended technical tours inside Hanyang University ERICA Campus and the Korean Institute of Industrial Technology–Korea Additive Manufacturing Innovation Center (KITECH KAMIC) in Siheung City. The technical tours focused on 3D printing advancements, industrial AI, and manufacturing technologies.

1. Most Outstanding Geodetic Engineer in Academe given by the Board of Governors of the Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. during the 47th Annual National Directorate Meeting and Convention at Baguio City last June 2022.



2. Most Outstanding Geodetic Engineer in Academe given by the Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines - National Capital Region Chapter during the 32nd Regional Convention at Century Park Hotel, Manila last May 20, 2022.
