Mr. Sora Muramatsu, a civil engineering student from NIT-Akashi College, Japan, recently completed an internship at De La Salle University's (DLSU) Civil Engineering Department. The program, which ran from September 2 to 21, 2024, was supervised by Engr. Cheryl Lyne C. Roxas and offered Sora a unique opportunity to learn and grow in a hands-on and supportive environment.
During his internship, Sora worked on exciting projects like the Dam Risk Management Decision Support Tool (DARMA), the Rainfall and Stormwater Run-off Management Technology for Tropical Climate (RainS-TECH), and the SMART in House Construction Project. These experiences allowed him to see how engineering can tackle real-world problems, especially in making sustainable solutions. He also joined construction site visits, where he learned about the importance of safety, attention to detail, and teamwork in managing engineering projects.
Beyond the technical work, the internship was a chance for Sora to experience Filipino culture and connect with local students, mentors, and professionals. He found Filipinos warm and welcoming, and these interactions taught him the value of teamwork, adaptability, and respect in the workplace.
The experience was not just about academics—it was also about personal growth. Sora stepped out of his comfort zone, gained new perspectives, and learned skills that will help him in his future career. This internship was a memorable and transformative chapter in Sora’s life, showing the importance of learning through experience and embracing opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.
