The Civil Engineering Society along with the Civil Engineering Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory 1 (LBYCVG1) professors conducted an annual field density tests for students taking up the course, LBYCVG1 last November 13, 2015 at DLSU-Science and Technology Complex. This activity is done every year to excavate on-site soil samples which will be used on laboratory experiments namely determination of unit weights and density of the soil by using sand-cone method and rubber-balloon method.
All geared up, the civil engineering students make their way to the site to perform such experiments. This activity aims to provide the students the experience of being on the field conducting experiments and/or testing. Even on a sunny day, the students were able to accomplish the experiments without much delays. Thereafter, all tired, the students and professors savored their lunches at the canteen. This activity is one of the common practices of civil engineers specialized in Geotechnical Engineering. Even though this specialization is currently not offered in DLSU, the students were given the gist of the program which could perk up their interest in studying Geotechnical concepts for their thesis.
