GCOE Offshore MSCE Program in full swing

The DLSU GCOE Graduate Offshore Program in Civil Engineering hosted by St. Louis University, Baguio City and funded by the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) has started last Sept. 4, 2015. The graduate students are 12 faculty members coming from universities in Northern Luzon such as St. Louis University, University of the Cordilleras, Pangasinan State University, University of Pangasinan, Mariano Marcos State University and Tarlac State University of Central Luzon. All the students are CHED scholars. Classes are held at the Conference Room, Otto Hahn Building of St. Louis University every Friday and Saturday.

The graduate program which consists of  3 units of a Bridging Course, 6 units of advanced math, 30 units of civil engineering courses and 6 units of thesis  leads to a DLSU degree in MS in Civil Engineering. The Offshore MSCE program aims to upgrade the teaching faculty in local universities and address civil engineering related problems on sustainable engineering, disaster risk reduction and planning & design of civil engineering systems. The thesis of the students may focus on the following tracks based on the expertise & interest of the DLSU faculty:

1.      Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) – hazard, risk and safety assessments and design of structures and civil engineering systems
2.      Sustainable Civil Engineering (SCE) – Use of recycled materials for construction, life cycle assessments, reduction of carbon emission and wastes, material testing
3.      Civil Engineering Systems (CES) – planning, analysis and design of infrastructure systems and components

For the 1st term, six units of Advanced Mathematics by Dr. Jun Roxas and 3 units of the Bridging Course by Dr. Alexis Fillone are offered. Team teaching is practiced in the Bridging Course where Mr Jason Ongpeng handled the orientation part of the Bridging Course last Sept 5 while Dr. Andy Oreta conducted the matrix algebra and applications topics last Sept 11.
