Cheryl Roxas presents paper at conference under the Sakura Exchange Program

Assistant Professor Cheryl Lyne C. Roxas of the Civil Engineering Department attended the 7^th International Conference on Green and Sustainable Chemistry (GSC) and the 4^th Japan Association of Chemical Innovation (JACI) on 5-8 July 2015 at Hitotsubashi University, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan. This year’s theme is “Towards New Developments in GSC”. GSC refers to chemistry and chemical technologies that are friendly toward people and the environment, support the sustainable development of societies, satisfy basic requirements for reducing environmental burden and improving environmental compatibility. The conference was attended by participants from Europe, Canada, Japan and ASEAN countries. Engr. Roxas presented in a poster part of her research entitled: “Effects of Shrinkage Cracks on the Durability of Concrete Mixed with Seawater”. She was joined by graduate students, namely: Christopher Ventura, John Ephraim Torres and Ric Madison Cua, from the DLSU Chemical Engineering Department. Engr. Roxas is currently a PhD student at DLSU.

The conference is part of the activities under the Sakura Exchange Program for Science 2015. Other activities of the program include company visits at Mitsubishi Chemical, DIC Corporation, Kao Corporation, Shiseido Cosmetics, and JX Nippon Oil and Energy Corporation. Museums like the Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art and the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) were also visited. 

The program served as a venue for the exchange of ideas on green and sustainable research among industry practitioners, government officials, members of the academe and students from different countries. Latest technology and innovation employed by leading companies were also shared.
