CES supports DLSU-TIT Student Exchange 2014

Tokyo tech Students and CES students - Henry Sy Building, DLSU, Manila

The De La Salle University – Tokyo Institute of Technology Exchange Program is an annual activity wherein students from Tokyo Tech visit the Philippines as exchange students. This event promotes the interaction of students from different cultures to encourage international cooperation between the two participating schools. This year, there were a total of 20 Tokyo Tech students that participated in this program. These students underwent various activities like site visits, seminars, and English classes.

The role of the Civil Engineering Society of DLSU was to help the Tokyo Tech students adapt to the Philippine culture and enjoy it at the same time. The volunteers toured them within the University and showcased the facilities that the university is equipped with. As well as accompanying them in their daily activities.

Chiyoda Site Visit

One of the activities they participated in was the Chiyoda Site Visit wherein the students were toured in on-going construction sites within Metro Manila namely the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig & the Beacon 3 project along Chino Roces, Makati. Outside of the four walls of the classroom, the activity enabled the participants to have an in-depth understanding of the engineering world. This event was organized by the Chiyoda Philippines Corporation.

Also, the Tokyo Tech students took English classes organized by the DLSU Civil Engineering Department to help the exchange students to become more internationally prepared in terms of communication proficiency.

 

Fellowship after the seminar-workshop

A Seminar Workshop on the Utilization of Waste Materials: Sharing Knowledge Technology and Expertise on Waste Utilization for a Sustainable Environment was held last 5^th of September 2014 which was attended by the exchange students. The Civil Engineering Department organized this event and there were some Civil Engineering Society officers whom assisted participants during the event. Different delegates from Japan and the Philippines presented their research papers on waste utilization and sustainability. A fellowship dinner concluded the day at the Henry Sy Sr. Hall Roof deck. The Tokyo Tech students also presented an introduction of Japan - its lifestyle, people, and the Tokyo Institute of Technology graduate programs.

Weekend trip at Batangas

CES also organized their weekend trip to Blue Coral Beach Resort in Laiya, Batangas. They all got to bond and enjoy each others company as well as engage in fun activities like beach volleyball, billiards, frisbee, and banana boat.

Basically, the whole exchange program allowed the participants to interact and establish an international connection that may be useful in their future careers. Also, they were able to make new friendships; friendships that would definitely last for a last time. How the two sets of students from Japan and the Philippines interact and break cultural barriers shows how much impact the exchange program achieved. That in itself is a success.
