AUN/SEED-Net Conferences - Myanmar 2014



DLSU CE Dept delegates at the 7AGEC and 2ANDC - Myanmar
The Geology Department of University of Yangon organized “The 7th AUN/SEED-Net Geological Engineering Conference (AGEC) and The 2nd AUN/SEED-Net Natural Disaster Conference (ANDC)”. The conference was held in Yangon City, Myanmar last 29th and 30th of September, 2014.


CE Department Associate Professors, Dr. Jonathan Dungca and Dr. Lessandro Garciano and BSMS students presented papers in the said conference. Miller D.L. Cutora, the BSMS advisee of Dr. Mary Ann Q. Adajar, was one of the first session presenters under the Geological Engineering division. Dr. Dungca, the GCOE Vice-Dean, presented a technical paper under the Natural Disaster division. Both Lessandro Estelito O. Garciano, STE division head, and Sam Jovinson D. Lim, Dr. Garciano’s BSM.S. advisee, discussed their individual papers also in the Natural Disaster division session. The main intention of this recent AUN/SEED-Net regional conference was to improve the alliance of Japan supporting universities and the member institutions of the ASEAN countries through sharing scientific and technical information in the field of geo-resource and geological engineering, and in the field of natural disaster. A total of 102 research papers were presented during the conference coming from different universities and engineering sectors in Cambodia, India, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, United Kingdom, and Vietnam. Five Filipino participants from UP Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) also presented their papers in the conference.



In the said event, it was also announced that the De La Salle University will be the host institution for the 3rd Natural Disaster Regional Conference next year, 2015. Dr. Renan Tanhueco and Dr. Andres Oreta are the contact DLSU faculty members in the field of Natural Disaster (ND) of the AUN/SEED-Net. Dr. Tanhueco was one of the presenters during the first regional conference for natural disaster last February 2014.
